Dental crowns are custom restorations designed to look and feel like natural teeth. They are used to replace old crowns or fillings, restore severely damaged teeth, and correct both cosmetic and functional problems. Crowns made from porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold are strong, natural-looking, and can last 20–30 years with proper care.
Getting a crown usually takes two visits. During the first visit, decay is removed, the tooth is shaped, and a temporary crown is placed. At the second visit, the temporary crown is removed, the final crown is fitted, adjusted, and permanently cemented.
Crowns and bridges effectively treat major dental problems caused by decay, injury, wear, or old fillings. They can relieve pain from cracked teeth, protect teeth after root canal treatment, and improve the appearance of front teeth when veneers are not suitable.
